DIY pedicure at home : Monsoons are here. Though some of you may enjoy getting wet at some point of time, it gives not so fun problems to your tresses, skin and feet. Specially to your feet; where you can some how manage to conceal your upper part of your body, your feet feels so unlucky of itself. They get wet and muddy in that dirty water that is all along the roads and ultimately gives rise to fungal infected, cracked and smelly feet. Sadly you cannot avoid walking through those dirty roads no matter how hard you try ( Jumping sideways and trying to balance on those stones to avoid getting your feet in the mud) . Isn’t it ? ;).
But don’t worry, with simple ingredients and tools you can pamper your feet. You neither need to run to salons nor invest in hundreds of bucks to get those pedicure kits. Instead you can achieve much more benefited results than salon’s with the simple 5 step DIY pedicure at home. Read on to know more. 🙂
5 step DIY pedicure at home with simple ingredients from your kitchen
Before I proceed, let me list all those basic tools and ingredients that you need to start the DIY pedicure.
- Nail polish remover ( non-acetone preferred)
- Cotton balls.
- A small tub to soak your feet ( can use your bucket if there isn’t any tub right now)
- A body wash, rose water and Dettol.
- A foot filer/ pumice stone and a cuticle dead skin peeling fork.
- Sugar, olive oil, tomato juice/ cucumber juice.
- Multani Mitti (Fuller’s earth)
- A towel.
Step 1: Wash your feet and soak them in Luke-warm water for about 5-7 min.
Its important to wash your feet properly before you start this process. Wash your feet with soap or any hand wash to remove that dirt and grim. Remove your nail polish with an acetone-free nail polish remover. Take some Luke warm water in a tub, add 1 tablespoon of your favorite body wash, 2 tablespoon of rosewater and a drop or a two of Dettol. Dettol is an antiseptic liquid and so it helps to kill the bacteria and any infection causing germs and also provides protection against germs. Of course who dosen’t know about it. 😉 Soak your feet in this tub for a good 5-7 min and just relax in the mean time.
Step 2: Use a pumice stone or a foot file to remove dead skin and trim your nails neatly.
I guess every one would have this foot filer in your home, if not just use the pumice stone and scrub your feet especially the heal area. The heal area easily gets cracked that leads the dirt and the germs to get accumulated easily. So while your feet is still wet,use your foot filer to remove that dead skin all around your heal and toe area.
Before you trim the dead skin around your cuticles, apply either Vaseline or olive oil around your cuticle area and massage for 2 min. This helps to protect the delicate skin around your nails from free radical damage. Now use a cuticle dead skin peeling fork gently to remove the dead skin around your nails. Trim your nails.
Step 3: Homemade foot scrub using sugar, olive oil and tomato juice.
Take a bowl. Add 2 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of tomato juice and few drops of olive oil. Mix them well. Wet your feet in fresh water. Now using this mixture scrub your feet with not-so-hard stokes. Tomato juice helps to remove the tan and olive helps to keep your feet moisturized and smooth without making it dry and itchy. Scrub for about 1- 2 min and wash-off.
Step-4: Multani Mitti pack to remove tan, lighten your feet and eliminate odor.
This step is purely option. I consider it important/worthy because, it helps to remove tan from your feet and lightens the skin. If you can invest an another 5-10 min more, just give it a try. Take a clean bowl and add required quantity of multani mitti,1 table spoon of tomato juice and 2 tablespoons of rose water to it. Mix it well till it gets a paste like consistency. Spread it all over your feet. Let it dry for 10 min. Wash off with cold water. And you can feel your feet so clean and fresh.
Step-5: Moisturize your feet.
Last but not the least. Pat dry your feet with a towel and Moisturize your feet with your normal body lotion.
The end results are really fantastic. You’ll know that you need not pour hundreds of bucks in those salons to get that perfect pedicure. Just try this 5-step DIY pedicure in your home and let me know your results/experiences in the comments section below.
