A little enlightenment
So, before you even think of why should I make my own Lip balm. Just read the ingredients of one of the common lip balm that girls use very often.
My god.. Are you serious? Parabens in Lip balm? I don’t want to talk anything. :/
If you are really not interested in buying chemically loaded and animal tested products any more, you can move further to make your own Lip balm.
Congratulations, this is the best decision that you have ever made. 🙂
So let’s get started.
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Ingredients: Shea butter, Almond Oil, Orange essential oil.
Supplies: A double boiler(A cheap alternative mentioned below), measuring spoons, Small Lip container(3ogms)
Most of the Lip balms, if not all contains Beeswax. I am not adding it here, as I want mine to be VEGAN and a little soft to my lips. Vegan beauties.. say yaay.! 🙂
How to make Lip balm – Hassle Free Method
Start with bowling a cup of water in a sauce pan.
Here I am demonstrating a different method to warm up your Shea butter if you don’t have a double boiler. If you have a double boiler, you can start off with next step.
Start with measuring your ingredients.
Take two spoons full (30gms) of Natural, unrefined Shea butter in a small bowl and put over the small glass or container containing Hot water. If you are using a double boiler, you can proceed to use the same to warm up your Shea by placing the Shea butter in the bowl and heating the pan that has water in it.
Most of them will like to use refined as they don’t like nutty smell in their Lip balm. If you are one of those, you are free to use refined Shea butter instead of Unrefined. But I like mine unrefined as it is unprocessed and retains its natural moisturizing benefits.
Collect the hot water in a tumbler and arrange the cup containing Shea butter and the tumbler as shown below.
Stir occasionally as the Shea starts to melt. After around 5 minutes, the Shea butter completely melts down into a oil and you are nor ready to add your oils.
Add 2 teaspoons of Almond oil (You can also add coconut oil, Avocado oil or any other light oil of your choice) to the melted Shea butter and stir them.
Now add 10 drops of Orange essential oil into the mixture and stir until all the oils are well mixed.
Now you need to be really quick to transfer the melted oils int the container, as the Shea butter starts to harden up. Quickly transfer the Lip balm into a small container and let it sit in a dark cupboard (away from sunlight) for the whole night.
Wake up to see your beautifully soft organge-y Lip balm in the morning, and apply it on your Lips.
See, that simply it is. Make it for your mom and dad too. They’ll surely love it.
This Lip balm can be applied any number of times during your day and night.
Did you enjoy making it? Let me know how yours is turned out.
Any questions? I am here to answer them any time.
