There are three ways in which you can use these essential oils to get rid of dandruff and itchy scalp. One is Pre-shampoo scalp treatment (Hair pack/Overnight treatment), second is in the shower scalp treatment and the third post-shampoo scalp treatment.
Pre-shampoo Scalp treatment:
(i) A hair pack with the goodness of Aloe Vera and any essential oil (from above list) will soothe your scalp from all these hair problems.
How to use :
- Extract some Aloe Vera gel from fresh leaves and blend them well. Collect the juice in cup.
- Add 2 drops of Rosemary essential oil, 4 drops of Peppermint essential oil and 2 drops of Tea tree essential oil in the cup containing Aloe Vera and mix them well. This ratio of essential oil is for 30ml of Aloe Vera gel. (If you want the exact proportion for the amount you are using, just comment below. I will answer them)
- Apply this pack all over your scalp and massage for 5 minutes. Tie your hair up in a bun and wash off after 30 minutes with a mild shampoo.
Note: Remember that, essentials oils should never be used directly. It should be diluted to a maximum of 2% in whatever oils or masks you are using. Direct use of these essential oils may cause skin sensitization and irritation. Pregnant women should not use essential oils.
(ii) Overnight Hot Oil Treatment is also the most effective method to treatment dandruff. This is useful to treat flaky dandruff that is way to itchy and sometimes die to which the scalp becomes sore and irritated.
Take any one carrier Oil of your choice. I like to use the following oils for my hair. I sometimes use any one oil or mix a couple of oils for a more deep conditioning effect.
After you have chosen your favorite carrier oil of your choice, Take a small bowl and add 2 tablespoons of that oil in it. Warm the oil using the double boiling method, i.e., Fill the mug half way with hot water and now take that small bowl which has oil and dip half way into the water for 5 minutes to warm the oil a little.
I prefer warming the oil in this way rather than warming it in the Microwave. Because, the later will over heat the oil and that evaporates the essential fatty acids in it.
After warming the oil a bit, add 3 drops of Tea Tree/ Peppermint essential oil in it and mix it well. Apply tis to your scalp and leave it overnight for a more effective potent treatment. Wash off with a mild shampoo the next morning.
In the Shower Treatment:
The best and the easy way to use essential oil in your hair care routine is by using them in your shampoo while cleansing your hair.
♥Follow these steps while you are in shower and your hair is wet and ready to be washed♥
-Take one tablespoon full of which ever shampoo you are using into your palm, but it is best to use herbal, mild or organic shampoo with minimal ingredients. Avoid using harmful chemicals as much as your can.
– Now add not more than 2 drops of peppermint essential oil to the shampoo that is in your palm.
-Mix them both using both of your palms and apply to your hair and massage gently for 3-4 minutes.
-Cleanse your hair well and wash off with normal water.
-Follow up with a conditioner.
After Shower Treatment:
Even after cleansing your hair too, you can use these treatments in a simple way. Don’t worry, there is no use of oil here, but just the rose water.
Pick a best Rose water from this list – 100% Pure Rose water other than Kama Ayurveda & Forest Essentials Available in India and for 30ml of Rose water add 6 drops of any essential oil mentioned above and mix them well. Store this solution in a spray bottle.
Spray this all over your scalp and massage gently, once you are out of the shower.
