Premature graying has become a common thing in today’s lifestyle and polluted environment. Though researches say that premature graying is largely genetic, our eating habits, lifestyle and daily stress has only increased the rate of premature graying. Seeing your hair grey at an early i.e below 25 is really frustrating, isn’t it?
My Hair coloring Story
I was in 15, when I saw my first gray hair. Imagine how worst the feeling was. Since then, I use to henna my hair. But as the years passed by, the count of gray hair is increasing in such a way that I could no longer color my hair brown. Why u ask? Imagine a few copper strands been inserted in some one’s head. How awkward it would look? So that’s the reason I have quit.
Later in my 20s, I started coloring my hair using the Matrix range. I don’t remember the name correctly, as It was hair styling expert who use to color my hair at salon. Guess What? Due to some odd reasons, my gray hair was increasing more and more after I opted for coloring my hair through these chemical methods. I stopped coloring my hair through this method only after I took 5 sittings to realize the damage I have been causing to my hair.
On research, I found that hair coloring products contains some of the cancerous ingredients, that some people get headaches and feel nausea-tic even if they inhale the odor of it. So they are highly harmful in the long run and may also deplete the natural color of your hair.
Did you ever listen from anyone saying ” Hey, don’t color your hair, it will only increase you gray hair more and you will be left with no option but to color your hair more often” . Did You? So did I. The reason is clear above. 🙁
It was so disappointing. I was like.. Is there nothing left in this world that will work for my hair to color it black?
I then found this Kama Ayurveda Organic hair coloring kit, which contains Henna and Indigo leaf powder. This claims to color your henna-ed hair to black. Wow..! Just wow, I thought. I immediately thought of trying it and so ordered it.
It worked..!!! I have finally found the best way to color my hair black, naturally.
How to Color your hair black Naturally
The kama Ayurveda organic hair coloring kit contains one pack of Organic Henna powder, one pack of Organic Indigo leaf powder, 2 pair of gloves and two shower caps.
The first step is to apply henna and after washing your hair and letting it completely dry, you have to apply indigo leaf powder. So this 2-step process gives your hair it natural black color. Though this is just a gist of the process, I will explain you clearly step by step below.
Please note that, I am not using Kama Ayurveda organic kit here. As it was finished long back :p and I found a really cheaper alternative to this high-end branded kit. You can get double the quantity for the price that you may pay for Kama Ayurveda hair coloring kit, if you buy these two powders differently from any other organic brand. Do not compromise at the quality, only opt for Organic certified henna and indigo powders.
I will be anyway showing you the one that i am using in the end of this post.
- Organic Henna powder
- Organic Indigo powder
- 1 hair coloring brush
- 1 cup of black tea
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups Water
- safety gloves
Comb your hair tangle free and section your hair into equal parts. Make more sections if you have more gray hair that are to be covered. Wear safety gloves to avoid stains on your hands.
I basically have gray hair on top of my head, in the middle part. So I start my taking middle part.
> Mix one cup of henna with one cup or less freshly brewed black tea. Keep it aside for at least 6 hours before applying to hair.
> Apply the henna all over your hair if you don’t mind a little brownish tint on your hair. Otherwise just apply to the air which is gray and need to be colored black.
>Tie your head into a bun and cover it with a shower cap. After 1 0r 2 hours, Wash your hair with just plain water without applying shampoo and do not apply conditioner too. Let your hair completely dry before you go to the next step.
> Now take one cup of indigo leaf powder and add a pinch of salt to it.
> Take a cup of hot water and by slowing pouring the water into the cup of indigo leaf powder, mix it well till there are no lumps formed. why salt? because it will help enhance the dye to give you more stronger color.
Keep it aside for 10 minutes and apply to your hair concentrating more on your gray hair which your think should be colored black.
> After 2 hours, wash your hair with shampoo and condition as usual.
> Let your hair air dry. You can apply any oil the next day to increase the staying more of the color on your hair.
Don’t pop your eyes seeing a toothbrush here, first of all that is an unused one and yeah i used a toothbrush to apply indigo to my hair specially as it cover every hair properly. 😀
These are the products I use. As you can see, these are certified organic powders.
It may seem to you this is such a long process, don’t get impatient. You can split the whole process into two and apply henna one day and indigo the other.
In case if you want buy these, you can buy them here. They have them in combos too. check them out.
So what are your views on this? Have you girls tried this method earlier.? Have any unanswered questions? fell free to put them in the comments below, I’ll answer each one of you. 🙂
