Alba BOTANICA Leave in Conditioner REVIEW

Alba BOTANICA Leave in Conditioner REVIEW – Is It Worth the Buy?

My quest for the best Natural skin and hair care products never ends. I Like to explore and try new brands, and also like to show you all how best are these compared to the toxin stuffed products that does not good in the long run. In this process, I was searching for a natural Leave in conditioner for my hair which can soften my hair and enhances my waves for a beautiful bounce.

As most of the Leave in conditioners are loaded with emulsifiers, parabens and artificial fragrances, I felt it difficult to find one which is natural and organic. My lucky I found a brand which can make a conditioner without all of these. I was amazed to read the ingredients. They all are organic oils and no artificial colorants or chemicals.

I immediately ordered one and here goes my review after using it for a coupe of months now.

Alba BOTANICA Leave in Conditioner REVIEW

Let’s start with the packaging

The packaging of the Alba Botanica Leave in Conditioner is done in a Plastic squeeze tube that is easy to get just the right amount of product on to your palm.

The Color of this tube is Light canary Yellow with a Flip up dark pink plastic cap. Defiantly a travel friendly one, but a bulky one. It will take up a considerable space in your bag. There are no travel size small tubes available for this Alba Botanica Leave in conditioner.

Alba BOTANICA Leave in Conditioner REVIEW

Apart from the natural oils and extracts, these are some of the ingredients in this product, which you may ask me are safe or not.

Cetearyl Alcohol

This alcohol is derived from natural vegetable oils and substances like palm oil (hence the alternative name palmityl alcohol) and coconut oil. Cetyl alcohol at room temperature is a white, waxy solid or may also be found in the form of waxy white flakes.

It is added to lotions and skin creams as thickening agents, and is a major component of hair conditioners where it helps the oils and water in the conditioner mix together

Behentrimonium Methosulfate

Behentrimonium methosulfate  is an incredibly gentle, surfactant made from non-GMO rapeseed aka canola oil. It is actually one of the mildest detangling ingredients around, and helps provide slip in some of the natural conditioners.

Behentrimonium methosulfate does not cause buildup, and is non-irritating to the scalp.

Panthenol which is derived from Vitamin B5 is a substance unanimously rated as non-toxic and is not considered harmful for hair and skin. It can also be found in a variety of acne treatments. Panthenol helps moisturize hair and skin and stops both from getting dehydrated. It’s extremely water and alcohol soluble, which makes it super easy to wash out

Citrix Acid

Citric acid, an ingredient which not only helps in the stimulation of hair growth but also helps making the hair follicles healthy. Citric acid improves the scalp condition by getting rid of the dandruff and it increases the flow of blood, which in turn enhances and mends the follicles of the hair necessary for a healthy hair growth.

Shampoos usually are at pH 5.5 because at slightly acidic pH the scales on a hair follicle lay flat making the hair feel smooth and look shiny. Citric acid is used to adjust the pH down to 5.5 (ish). It is a fairly weak acid which makes the adjustment easier. it also has a small amount of preservative action. Citric acid as opposed to any other acid will prevent bacterial growth

There is a lot of buzz on Phenoxyethanol about its safety. It is basically used as a preservative in most of the cosmetics to prevent bacterial growth. It is an alternative to harmful parabens. This is safe to use below 1% concentration and is toxic if ingested. But here, we cant predict the concentration. The only hope that i have here is that, as it is the last second ingredient the concentration would be very low.

I still don’t recommend this even in lower concentrations. Although this is approved to be used in lower concentrations, it is always better to avoid it if you can.  But it is highly impossible to avoid these days because all the products which explicitly says there are no parabens in their products, must have to use this product as a preservative (some disclose and some don’t)

Potassium Sorbate

Potassium sorbate is a food-grade preservative that has been effectively used for decades and is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) to preserve food products . Studies using dilutions similar to what’s used in body care products found it’s practically non-irritating and non-sensitizing.

In fact, the toxicity of potassium sorbate is pretty close to that of table salt ! What’s more, it’s included in the Handbook of Green Chemicals, it’s approved by the Natural Products Association, and is also Whole Foods Premium Body Care approved.

Quantity & Price??

This is product is priced for Rs. 1100/- (on Amazon) when I bought this. The quantity that you get for this price is 198gms i.e., 7oz

As this is an imported product, I guess that is the reason this product is priced a little high.

Alba BOTANICA Leave in Conditioner REVIEW  – My Opinion

As we done with the Packaging and ingredients, Let’s talk about the Color, consistency and aroma of this Leave in Conditioner. The color is white and consistency is thick and creamy. It is true to its claim as mentioned on the packaging, it is completely fragrance free. I never knew that I would love fragrance free products until I tried this one.

This is a great plus of this product, best suited for the sensitive nose people too. These are some of the swatches of this Leave in Conditioner. Have a look.

Coming to the application part, a pearl sized amount of this rich creamy Leave in conditioner is enough to apply to your entire hair (medium length hair). It blends well and covers the entire hair without weighing it down or making it greasy.

To apply:  Take a pea sized amount of the conditioner and rub it on to both the palms to distribute the product evenly. Now, apply to your hair from mid length air to the ends. Do not apply to your scalp or roots. Do not over apply it, as it will lead to product build up and will also weigh down your hair.

The application is similar to applying any hair serum to your hair. So, this is no rocket science. Chill..! you can eventually master it after using it for a couple of time. After all, Practice makes man perfect. 😉

As my hair is very tick, I mainly wanted to test whether this conditioner can smoothen my tresses a bit and make it more manageable.  To my surprise, it does soften my hair not just that one whole day, but till my next hair wash.

It easily detangles my hair. After the end of the day, when I comb my hair there will be hardly any tangles in it. I love the way how easily my brush runs through my hair and it also feels so soft to touch my hair.

I felt its worth the buy even though it is a bit pricey. It does what it claims for. My wavy hair is more defined and bouncy, as if I have styled my hair, even though I didn’t. Actually, it is best suited for curly hair. As it enhances your curls and makes it more shiny, soft and bouncy. The best part of this conditioner is that it retains moisture, locks hydration and improves the elasticity of your hair which in turn cause less breakage and split ends.

Let see the Pros and Cons of this conditioner quickly summed up..!

I am OK for..

  1. Fragrance Free. No Artificial fragrances. Sensitive noses..say yay..!!
  2. No Parabens, Sulphates and artificial colors.
  3. Fully Vegan Product. No animal Testing
  4. Enriched with Coconut oil, Aloe Vera, Lavendar, callendla and chamomile flower extracts.
  5. Color protection
  6. Doesn’t weight down hair
  7. Enhances curls and makes your mane manageable up to 2 days
  8. Hydrates hair ends and controls dryness and damage caused my heat styling, pollution and sun damage.
  9. Can be used on dry hair too for styling
  10. Great for thick and unruly hair. De-tangles easily and softness hair with regular use.

I am NOT OK for..

  1. Price. Though I sometimes feel the price is not very high, if I compare it with the very own India’s Luxurious products skin and Hair care brands like Forest essentials and Kama Ayurveda. This is  pretty decently priced for this quantity which can last for more than 8 months for me. So, if you calculate like me, it is not a Con. 😀
  2. Behentrimonium Methosulfate. Though its unavoidable in the products where in water is used, it is better to find out a safe alternative.
  3. Availability (not for me). Only Available on Amazon.
